Hello!

I am Aura Williams, and I am the Counselor at the Monroe County Career Technical Center.

I am a graduate of Troy State University, the University of South Alabama, and the University of West Alabama.  I hold a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Broadcast Journalism, a Master's of Science Degree in Community Counseling, and Education Specialist's Degree in School Counseling.

  Mission Statement

The Mission of the Monroe County Career Technical Center's Comprehensive School Counseling and Guidance Program is to prepare every student socially, academically, and emotionally for present and future challenges.  Students are provided with opportunities to gain an understanding of self and others, to participate in educational and occupational exploration, and to pursue career planning opportunities in an environment that is safe, caring, and encouraging.  The counselor works in a collaborative partnership with students, educators, parents, and community members to empower students to reach their highest level as productive members of society.

 

Program Delivery Components

Every student who attends the Monroe County Career Technical Center has the opportunity to participate in guidance activities that include information about :

- Post High School Planning

- Career Awareness and Exploration

- Choice - Making Skills

- Pre - Employment Skills

 

Individual Student Planning

Students who attend the Monroe County Career Technical Center have an opportunity to work one  on one with the Career and Technical Education Counselor in order to assess and interpret individual abilities, interest, skills, and achievements.  Through the use of Kuder the counselor is able to gain valuable knowledge about student interest and abilities.  The counselor also works with teachers and parents to help guide students in making career choices that will benefit them in the future. 

 

Placement and Follow - Up :

The counselor may also advise students in making transitions by providing information and by assisting in finding resources such as :

- Career and Technical Education Programs

- Career Shadowing

- Post - Secondary Appilcation Process

- Four - Year Education Plan

-Honors and Awards Program

- Financial Aid/ Scholarship Advising

- Student Portfolios

- Dual Enrollment

 

Responsive Services

The Monroe County Career and Technical Education Counselor also provides a wide variety of Responsive Services that meet the immediate needs and concerns of students.  These services include personal counseling, crisis counseling, problem solving, agency referral, and consultation.  The counselor may also assist with Peer Facilitation Programs.  Students in these programs may learn information regarding ways to solve conflict, be a tutor, and mentor other students.
