Hello!

I am Shanna Taite, and I am the Counselor at the Monroe County Career Technical Center.

I am a graduate of Excel High School, the University of Alabama, the University of North Alabama, and the University of West Alabama. I began my career in education at the Monroe County Career Technical Center as a Business Education Instructor before becoming the Career Tech Counselor. I also serve as advisor for National Technical Honor Society at MCCTC. 

It is extremely important to me that every student is successful at Monroe County Career Technical Center. It is also my goal that every student who takes courses at Monroe County Career Technical Center becomes College and Career-Ready. Mission Statement

The Mission of the Monroe County Career Technical Center's Comprehensive School Counseling and Guidance Program is to prepare every student socially, academically, and emotionally for present and future challenges.  Students are provided with opportunities to gain an understanding of self and others, to participate in educational and occupational exploration, and to pursue career planning opportunities in an environment that is safe, caring, and encouraging.  The counselor works in a collaborative partnership with students, educators, parents, and community members to empower students to reach their highest level as productive members of society.

 

Program Delivery Components

Every student who attends the Monroe County Career Technical Center has the opportunity to participate in guidance activities & individual consultations including:

-CTE Course Selection

-Individual & Group Counseling

-Identifying Career Paths

-Resume-Writing, Job Applications, & Interviewing Skills

-CTE Dual Enrollment

-Articulation

-College Admissions

-Searching & applying for Scholarships & Other Financial Aid

-Employment Referrals

Responsive Services

The Monroe County Career and Technical Education Counselor also provides a wide variety of Responsive Services that meet the immediate needs and concerns of students.  These services include personal counseling, crisis counseling, problem solving, agency referral, and consultation.  The counselor may also assist with Peer Facilitation Programs.  Students in these programs may learn information regarding ways to solve conflict, be a tutor, and mentor other students.
